Vicky Christina Barcelona hasn't aged well in the memory, as James Wolcott reminds me: "The sheer boringness of this movie is an insult, as if Allen couldn't be bothered to put more work into his skeletal script."

He's wrong on Barcelona, though. As much as I like Metropolitan (I don't remember The Last Days of Disco), it's not the Congreve-esque comedy of errors that Wolcott imagines (what the hell is a "bustling scenario" anyway?).

VCB is a very boring movie until Penelope kicks in. And she improvised all her Spanish lines- is my guess.
