Somehow Hitchens taking down the dreary, sinister propaganda of modern Christmas isn't so funny anymore, not when he sounds like Bill O'Reilly protecting a town square manger. And I blanched when he called The Weekly Standard "humorous." These days my irony-meter rings in suspicious tones around him.

see, people always complain about christmas songs, and i always wonder what supermarkets they go to that play like brahms or the velvet underground or something the rest of the year and then get all hatefully commercial in december. if anything the christmas season is relief from having to hear "i still haven't found what i'm looking for" every time i want cereal.
